Is GFuel a Good Pre-Workout?

If you are like me (a gamer) you have purchased GFuel and most likely during their infamous BOGO (buy one get one) which they do a few times a year. And each time they do a BOGO they come out with new flavors.

As this article is being written they have just come out with another BOGO for you to stock up on your GFuel for the summertime. And I will be discussing if GFuel is a good pre-workout.

Is GFuel a Good Pre-Workout?

According to GFuel on Twitter, “G FUEL is not a pre-workout (it contains zero aminos). It’s a sugar-free energy formula that’s intended to be a healthier alternative to canned energy drinks and sodas. That is all.”

What GFuel is trying to explain is that they intended GFuel for gamers to give them energy and focus when playing video games but they did not intend it to be used as a pre-workout. GFuel is more like coffee as it just has caffeine and not any of the benefits of a real pre-workout that has BCAA (branch-chain amino acids).

What is BCAA?

BCAA or Branched-Chain Amino Acids is an amino acid having an aliphatic side-chain with a branch. Among the proteinogenic amino acids, there are three BCAAs: leucine, isoleucine, and valine. Non-proteinogenic BCAAs include 2-aminoisobutyric acid.

Some studies have shown that BCAAs may help build muscle, reduce workout fatigue, and decrease muscle soreness after exercise.

Conclusion

You can use GFuel as a pre-workout if you wish. However, it will not get you that sick pump or jitters like pre-workout would. GFuel is just an energy supplement and doesn’t have to be used just for gaming. I know some people use it instead of coffee because they do not like having to make coffee or even the flavor. GFuel is just a healthier alternative to canned energy drinks that have a ton of sugar and sodium.
